David Rand became the Executive Director of Advanced Design at General Motors Design in September 2002.
Rand is responsible for GM's advanced vehicle design studios. The advanced design studios in Warren, Mich., Los Angeles, Calif., and Birmingham, England, provide a diversity of perspectives for developing concept vehicles and plotting new directions in automotive design.
Rand was previously the General Director of Design at GM do Brazil. In the U.S., he was responsible for the Buick Wildcat and Pontiac Sunfire concept cars, and was the vehicle chief designer for the Saturn VUE. He also led the team that created the Chevrolet Celta Spider and Sabia concept cars as well as the Celta, New Corsa and Meriva compact monocab.
He joined GM Design as an associate creative designer in 1978. He has worked at the Oldsmobile, Buick, Pontiac and Saturn studios as well as in GM's advanced studios.
Rand is a 1978 graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., earning a bachelor's degree in design. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Michigan State University.
