The 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander made its production debut at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show in Makuhari Messe, Makuhari, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. The Mitsubishi Outlander is an all-new mid-size SUV. Mitsubishi says the Outlander is on a newly developed platform with increased crash worthiness and body stiffness. Mitsubishi expects that platform to be used on about 3 million Mitsubishi and Chrysler vehicles.
Outlander sports a brand new powertrain that mates an aluminum cylinder block 2.4-liter 16-valve DOHC Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and lift Electronic Control (MIVEC) engine to a new Sport Mode 6-speed CVT. MIVEC and CVT will offer fuel economy while MIVEC will give better fuel economy in city driving conditions without sacrificing performance. Horsepower is increased by 8 ponies from the old SOHC iron-block.
Outlander borrows heavily from technology nurtured in the Lancer Evolution series to deliver hard-hitting on-road performance that raises the bar for SUVs. Depending on the trim level, you can seat 5 or 7 passengers. Inside, it has an exclusive entertainment system developed jointly with American car-audio supplier Rockford Fosgate.
