2014 Mitsubishi Outlander

Seven passenger CUV updated

Stretch, Thu, 10 Oct 2013 02:34:35 PDT

The Mitsubishi Outlander seven-passenger crossover, the largest vehicle in the Mitsubishi line-up, has lost 200 pounds to make it more fuel-efficient. Mitsubishi has added all the infotainment and new technology to make it more appealing to the average customer.

There are two engines, the standard powerplant on the ES and SE trims, is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that produces 166 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 162 pound-feet of torque. the GT trim level gets as standard the 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 224 horsepower 6,250 rpm and 215 pound-feet of torque or 166 @ 6,000 rpm.

The four-cylinder takes regular unleaded, the six-cylinder takes premium unleaded. The 4-cylinder front-wheel drive gets 25 city/31 highway/27 combined, the all-wheel drive gets 24 city/29 highway/26 combined, while the six-cylinder all-wheel drive (aka Super All-Wheel Control; S-AWC) GT S-AWC gets 20 city/28 highway/23 combined miles per gallon.

Mitsubishi has done everything right for this car that they can. The new generation has new technology, new infotainment and a 5-year/60,000 miles basic warranty, 10-year/100,000 miles on the powertrain and 7-year/100,000 miles for anti-corrosion. You will get a slight gain in fuel economy if you use the driver controlled ECO setting.

It's the little things that make a great car, like a turning radius of 34.8 ft and the backup camera that comes standard on the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.

The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander has some serious competition, the Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevrolet Traverse, Toyota Highlander. Each of these vehicles are well known and either refreshed or new for the market. The Hyundai Santa Fe has a better warranty than Mitsubishi.

Expect an Outlander PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) with full-time all-wheel-drive in mid-2014.
