The new exterior look for Toyota's Tacoma scans lower on a hip-hugger buttock shaped unrepentingly erotic body. This is NOT the version of the new Tacoma truck line you take in the back country. "Flaunt it if ya got!" heard in Mel Brook's The Producers play and soon to be film is the byline for the new 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4x2 X-Runner concept-sports truck.
But hey, we won't have to wash off the California dust so off we start up the dirt path into the infamous Hollister plantation of controlled fenced erosion off-road nirvana. "Crank DOWN that A/C" instructs Carol 'knob-bidge' Traeger to the front row occupants of the X-Runner. Toyota's honkn' 4.0 V6 24-valve 245 hp powerplant is not shy in keeping the backseaters cool.
Show truck Red, scooped, just-for-looks ONLY, (non-turboed or supercharged) hood, the new 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4x2 X-Runner pickup truck screams look-at-me dude! Longer, wider, that the last generation Tacoma, did I say sexier already? This is THE truck for Friday night crusing. Black Sand and new Speedway Blue alternative exterior colours are offered but dude, this is a red truck at heart.
ONLY six-speed manual transmission for the X-Runner with a limited-slip rear differential is offered. Stomp-on-er from zero-to-60 MPH in less than seven seconds plus the Tacoma X-Runner "lateral acceleration" produces a sports car-like feel.
The X-Runner chassis has a reinforced frame for rock-solid torsional support. Four adults, three 180lb and wee Ms. Traeger's wispy presence in the back seat with me were securely rocked comfortably as the X-Runner navigated the wonderfully rutted dirt tracks of Hollister.
The X-Runner suspension rides one inch lower than the standard Tacoma frame with 255/45R18 Bridgestone Potenza performance tires on 18-inch alloy wheels. X-Runner ONLY firmer and shorter springs with tuned Bilstein gas shock absorbers are located outboard of the frame rails like Ford's new F-150 for increased stability and the rear stabilizer bar has firmer bushings for quicker steering response. This is NO wandering-wheel pickup truck.
