Infiniti QX60 CUV brings seats for seven and a power boost

2017, Infiniti, QX 60

The 2017 QX60 -- Infiniti's stylish and luxurious crossover wagon with seats for seven -- scores an engine upgrade with ten percent boost in horsepower and torque.

QX60's VQ35DD V6 -- displacing 3.5 liters and rigged with dual overhead cams, new direct injection gasoline system and continuously variable valve timing controls -- produces 295 hp at 6400 rpm with the torque pumping up to 270 lb-ft at 4800 rpm.

The V6 connects to an advanced CVT (continuously variable transmission) labeled Xtronic with enhanced D-Step Shift Logic control.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy figures for this 4379-to-4515-pound wagon look good: 21/27 mpg city/highway for FWD (front-wheel-drive) models and 19/26 mpg with AWD (all-wheel-drive) gear.

The QX60 orients to FWD traction yet also offer a computer-managed AWD system with yaw movement control for dependable grip on slippery pavement.

All QX60 models employ an independent suspension system with struts in front and rear multi-link arrangement, plus hydraulic electric power-assisted steering and disc brakes for all corners with ABS (anti-lock brake system) and EBD (electronic brake force distribution).

Also, every edition gets a VDC (dynamic vehicle control) device with TCS (traction control system) which automatically checks lateral skidding on slippery pavement, and standard HSA (hill start assist) and (for AWD models only) HDC (hill descent control).

Stretching over 16 feet long and decorated with a raked face flashing a chrome-finned double-arch grille and speed-strafed headlamps and LED daytime running lights on front corners plus curvaceous fender blisters bulging over the optional 20-inch split 15-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels, the slippery CUV rides on the chassis of a car. Its unibody structure -- merging chassis and body into a cohesive entity that's extremely rigid -- supports a 114.2-inch wheelbase.

The QX60 passenger compartment is generous in scale with seating for seven or 76.5 cubic feet of flat-floored stow space stretching from front-row seatbacks to the tail-side liftgate.

Three rows of seats are standard in all versions of the QX60 and legroom for riders is good. Front seat headroom measures 40.7 inches with front legroom at 42.3 inches and 41.7 inches of legroom for the second-row bench that splits and folds and also slides fore and aft for easy access to the third-row split-and-fold 2-seat bench with 30.8 inches of legroom.

Infiniti lists gear packages instead of trim divisions: Premium Package, Premium Plus Package, Theater Package, Driver Assistance Package and Deluxe Technology Package.

The Premium Package installs roof rails, a heated steering wheel, driver's seat 2-way power lumbar support, dual occupant memory system for driver's seat and steering wheel and outside mirrors, entry/exit assist for driver's seat and steering wheel. Continuing with outside mirrors with a reverse tilt-down feature, Enhanced Intelligent Key (memory stores an occupant seating position and last-used audio settings, climate control and navigation settings). Remote Engine Start and a Bose 13-speaker Premium Sound System with AM/FM/CD/DVD/MP3 plus Radio Data System and speed-sensitive volume control.

The Premium Plus Package adds Infiniti Navigation with Infiniti Connection and an 8-inch WVGA color touch-screen display, Lane Guidance and 3D building graphics, Infiniti Voice Recognition for audio plus navigation and vehicle information systems, and the Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection and front and rear sonar system.

The Deluxe Technology Package includes high-tech electronics: Intelligent High Beam Assist and auto-dimming side-view mirrors, Cruise Control (Full-Speed Range), Blind Spot Warning, Backup Collision Intervention, Distance Control Assist, front and rear sonar sensors. Furthermore, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention, Blind Spot Intervention system, Front Pre-Crash Seatbelts, Forward Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Predictive Forward Collision Warning. Advanced Climate Control System, climate-controlled front seats, and heated second-row seats, third-row seatback power return, large moonroof with power sunshade, Motion Activated Liftgate, a Bose Cabin Surround Sound System with 15 speakers and the 20-inch alloy wheels capped by all-season tires.
