I've known Tony since high school, we went to Chofu High School in Tokyo Japan together. He married his high school sweetheaart, Pam, and has been married for almost 30 years. He's a very stable guy, with only one obsession. He loves cars, always has. In high school Tony was known as "King of the Road". He even had a parking space just for him directly outside the high school. Tony could be thought of as the fonz of Chofu High School.
Tony recently turned 50 and decided that this was the time to splurge. He bought the 50th anniversary Chevy Corvette in red. Anytime I hear Corvette I think of Tony. He could be the stereotypical Corvette buyer, stable but lusting for the car all guys dreamed of when they were young. Tony's dream car was obviously the Corvette.
In 2006 the Corvette took another jump in horsepower, making it the most powerful car General Motors has ever offered for sale in mass production. At 500 horsepower the Z06 jumps from 0-60 in less than four seconds. The Gen IV, V-8 is handbuilt at General Motors performance building center in Wixom. The V-8 is an LS7, 7.0 liter 427 cubic inch that allows Chevy to put 190 mph on the speedometer.
My husband, Stretch, and his buddy Glenn, have a spanky and the gang club called the Mouse Motor Pirates (MMP) (http://ballico-stretch.blogspot.com/). They have homebuilt airplanes that have lycomning 0290s in them and they reengineer them to acheive greater displacement and higher output. They could put an 0360 in, but the 60 horses more would involve more weight.
Chevy must have some motor mouse engineers, because they've done the same with their old 427 8-banger. They've increased the bore and stroke and switched to pressed-in-liners. Chevy has restricted the air cleaner and intake ducting to pull the all the revs they can from the two valves per cylinder.
